Full interior renovation — Urbancat Barcelona

Full renovations.

A renovation is a conversation between what a home was and what it can become. We work on Eixample apartment buildings, Sarrià penthouses and Born lofts with the same principle: respect what already exists and elevate what deserves to be elevated.

Renovating a distinguished Eixample Cerdà apartment building is an exercise in applied archaeology. Before moving a partition wall, we open up surfaces, read the layers, listen to what the building is saying. The wrought iron, the hydraulic tiles, the moulded ceilings: every element speaks of an era that deserves respect, not decorative nostalgia.

The square metres are what they are and must be worked with intelligence. Layouts that breathe, open kitchens that do not steal space, bathrooms that feel larger because they are well designed. Natural stone, microcement, oak in continuous planks — chosen piece by piece, not from a catalogue. At Urbancat we do not just execute: we build.

Frequently asked questions

What we get
asked most.

01 How much does a full renovation cost in Barcelona?

The cost depends on the condition of the flat, the floor area and the chosen finish level. A full renovation with mid-to-high-end materials typically ranges between 900 and 1,400 €/m² in Barcelona. Century-old buildings in the Eixample may cost more due to the complexity of existing installations and the need to preserve heritage elements. We offer a free technical visit and an itemised quote within 48 hours.

02 Do I need an architect for a full renovation?

It depends on the scope. Renovations affecting the structure, altering the original layout or exceeding certain thresholds require a stamped project and technical supervision. At Urbancat, the studio and the construction firm are one: the architect who designs your renovation is the same person who supervises the execution. This eliminates the usual tension between designer and builder, and ensures the final result matches exactly what was designed.

03 How long does a full renovation of a complete flat take?

For a home of 80–120 m², the construction phase typically lasts between 12 and 16 weeks. Add 3–4 weeks for the prior design and budgeting stage. Buildings with severely deteriorated installations or historic elements to preserve may require more time. The deadline is written into the contract and managed with a genuine buffer. 96% of our projects are delivered on the agreed date.

04 What happens if unexpected issues arise during the works?

Old buildings always throw up surprises: lead pipes, outdated aluminium wiring, damp behind dry-lining. At Urbancat we communicate these before acting, present the technical solution and additional cost in writing, and wait for the owner's approval. "We've already done it" does not exist in our way of working. The budget may grow, but always with prior knowledge and the owner's decision.

05 Can we keep living in the flat during the renovation?

For full renovations affecting the entire home, it is standard for the owner to vacate during the works. When the renovation is partial — kitchen only, or bathrooms only — living in the flat is possible with some inconvenience. We assess it case by case and plan it into the works schedule to minimise disruption. Access to the property is maintained whenever technically feasible.
